Best Practices and Tips for Posting Jobs on Social Platforms

In addition to creating job posts on your website, we recommend posting jobs on key social media platforms (and using those posts to drive applicants back to your website's Careers page, where they can submit applications easily). Learn more about posting jobs on social platforms below.

Which Social Platforms Should You Post On?

In our experience, the best social media platforms to post your jobs on are:

You can post jobs on both of these social media platforms for free. Each platform allows you to add all of the relevant job details, including a description, pay structure, benefits, scheduling, and more.

What Should You Include in the Job Postings?

To get the most engagement and interest from your job postings on Facebook and LinkedIn, we recommend the following:

  • Put all of the information from your website Careers page into each posting. (See our job and careers best practices for more detail.)
  • Always split out job posts per market.
  • Add an image of your company/team.
  • Link to your website Careers page as well.
  • Fill out all available fields about the job.
  • Add screening/pre-qualification questions for key criteria, such as the ability to work in the United States, a valid driver's license/reliable vehicle, or the ability to lift a ladder and climb on a roof.

Please note that jobs expire after 30 days on Facebook, after which you should renew them.

Should You Pay to Increase Job Posting Visibility?

On both Facebook and LinkedIn, you have the option to pay to increase the visibility of your job postings. We do recommend this strategy but with a few important caveats as explained below.

Facebook

  • Almost always recommended: boosting. Boosting your Facebook job post will show your ad to users in a targeted area (with a 15-mile radius at minimum). Boosts are charged per impression, with a typical rate between $5 and $15 per 1,000 impressions. With Facebook boosting, most clients see a cost per application of between $15 and $75.
  • Not recommended: Facebook ad campaign. Due to discrimination laws, job postings are a "special ad category" that has very limited targeting abilities. (You cannot target based on age, gender, income, and other key metrics.) For this reason, we recommend against Facebook ad campaigns for hiring.

LinkedIn

  • Sometimes recommended: promoting. Similar to Facebook boosting, you can pay to promote your LinkedIn job posts to show your ad to users in a targeted area (with a 15-mile radius at minimum). Generally speaking, we recommend boosting on Facebook over promoting on LinkedIn.
  • Rarely recommended: LinkedIn ad campaign. LinkedIn ad campaigns allow you to target users based on their past job experience. These ad campaigns are typically better for white-collar office positions, and among the many types of LinkedIn ads, we typically recommend sponsored Inmail the most.

Other Paid Media Options

Another available platform for paid recruiting efforts is Google Ads, which includes a variety of ad types:

  • Google Search Ads
  • Google Display Ads
  • YouTube Video Ads

We do not typically recommend starting with Google Ads, but if you are interested in exploring this option, please reach out to your Spectrum Client Manager or submit a support ticket. We'd be happy to discuss your options.

How Can Spectrum Help with Social Media Job Posts?

While Spectrum does offer paid recruiting packages, we most often recommend that clients handle their recruiting in-house following the best practices we've outlined above. Boosting on Facebook is easy to do and tends to bring good results, making it the more cost-efficient route for most clients.

If you'd like more information on packages for Facebook, LinkedIn, or Google Ads, please contact your Spectrum Client Manager or submit a support ticket.
